SUMMARY OF DUTIES 

The purpose of this job is to perform and primarily contribute photographic services with a secondary duty to support videographer, editing, and graphic design projects as required for various City Council functions. The individual will be responsible for analyzing and determining photo/video requirements for plans as outlined by the Communications Director.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce compelling photos in support of the initiatives and is responsible for the management, maintenance, editing, and facilitation of the use of images 
  • Responsible for the capture, catalog, and maintenance of an archive of current and past photographs Proactively identifies opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community and media
  • Coordinate with internal divisions within the City of Atlanta to remain abreast of new developments (ex: community functions, and local events directly impacting ATL)
  • Identifies images and videos to help enhance social media platforms
  • Collaborate with the communications staff to capture necessary photographs and videos to incorporate into promotional materials and reports. Develops and maintains database of vendors, community influencers and organizations
  • Responsible for the inventory, operation, and maintenance of video and photographic equipment; including but not limited to: photo and/or video cameras, lenses, tripods, lighting gear, sound recording equipment, and computer editing station, digital storage equipment
  • Orchestrate projects that require assistance from contracted vendors to supply the City Council with additional video/photographic production services
  • Evaluate and interpret photo/video unit needs, assessing unit equipment requirements, and the submittal of recommendations for improvement 
  • Operate broadcast-grade multi-source video editing system, special effects, digital effects generators, video graphics, and titling systems, and audio enhancing systems to produce broadcast quality programming
  • Selects footage, photos, and transitions effects either independently or in cooperation with the staff
  • Serves as a secondary videographer for studio and location production as required. The position is responsible for working with and directing talent as required for the project 

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of photography and videography principles, techniques, and equipment
  • Proficiency in various camera systems, lenses, and accessories
  • Familiarity with lighting setups, both natural and artificial, for different shooting environments
  • Knowledge of post-production processes, including photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro) Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications-Word, Excel, Lists, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency in photo and video editing, color correction, and sound design
  • Excellent eye for detail and composition
  • Ability to work under various lighting conditions and adjust settings accordingly Work effectively and efficiently under stress and meet deadlines as required
  • Follows photo journalistic ethics an integrity 
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute creative visual projects from start to finish
  • Capacity to adapt to different styles and client requirements
