This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Videographer/Photographer position for the College of Science at Oregon State University (OSU).
The College of Science Dean's Office seeks a creative student with a passion for visual storytelling and expertise in video filming and editing and photography. As a part-time (maximum of 20 hours per week) video and digital content intern, your assignments will be creative and strategic marketing and storytelling videos, photography and some digital asset management.
Good news! You do not have to be a scientist.
While a science background may give you a unique perspective in telling science stories, it is not required to fulfill the visual storytelling needs of the College of Science. We have plenty of scientists around here, what we need most in this role is someone willing to dig into science stories and help communicate them to a general audience.
What you'll create:
In this position, you will produce creative content for web and social media channels and gain hands-on experience in marketing and communications. Content will be used to promote the College and function within the marketing strategy to build brand awareness, support recruitment and improve student experience.
Projects could include:
* creative short-form content for social media - share what life is like as a science student! * short-form digital ads that stop folks mid-scroll - this is an art. Ready to refine it together? * long-form storytelling that creates a dynamic web presence for the College - YouTube views and 21st century content creation. * interviews on College news - frontlines of cutting edge scientific research. * groundbreaking research in biology, zoology, biochemistry, microbiology, math, physics and chemistry - what scientists do at the College of Science is world-changing. They need you to tell their stories. * support the College's work to advance equity, justice, inclusion and diversity for students and faculty - we identify barriers, build access, repeat. * events, scholarships and other topics that will engage viewers while raising the impact of science at Oregon State - we make the mundane magical. * highlights of academic programs - share what we can offer to those who are hungry for it. * faculty and student profiles - follow your curiosity like a scientist and tell the stories of the people who make this place what it is.
You will work in the College of Science Marketing and Communications collaborative workspace in Kidder Hall. You will work closely with our award-winning creative team of designers, writers and fellow student workers on behalf of the Dean's Office. We're the coolest cats on campus, if we do say so ourselves. Incidentally, we also like cats. A lot. And dogs. We don't discriminate.
Position Duties
You'll work collaboratively with the College of Science marketing team to develop and execute video and photo projects that communicate the incredible scientific research and education happening at the College, as well as the gritty, passionate, brilliant culture alive in the school in its students, faculty and staff.
Video and digital assignments will relate to the support and enhancement of the College of Science's mission and brand for prospective and current students, alumni and donors and the general public. You'll work on creative projects that could begin an impressive portfolio in creative digital arts, while collaborating with and receiving mentorship from an award-winning marketing and communications team.
