Brief Position Overview:
The Forensic Photographer produces postmortem examination photographs for the Medical Examiner's Office in accordance with Department standard operating procedures; ensures all photographs are logged and archived for future review and reproduction; and assists with other photographic needs of the office as requested.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Produces postmortem examination photographs using professional digital cameras to document pertinent findings as determined by the forensic pathologists
Logs and archives each photograph acquired at death scenes and during postmortem examinations by case number to ensure that all images are properly stored and secured
Maintains an archive of supplemental digital files related to cases including radiographs, video, and images from other agencies
Produces copies of digital photographs for pathologists and approved outside agencies upon appropriate request
Assists other staff with digital camera troubleshooting and quality improvements; assists in the maintenance and repair of cameras and accessories
Provides photographic coverage of agency events as assigned
Other duties as assigned

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Photography or a related degree with advanced photography coursework from an accredited college or university
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in the use and maintenance of alternative light sources, various camera models, lenses, and filters to produce high-resolution photos and images
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the composition, exposure, optics, photochemistry, lighting, ultraviolet and infrared filters, image enhancement techniques, and digital software to provide high-resolution images in varying conditions and circumstances
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
Ability to adapt quickly to new applications and challenges, and work in a team environment

Experience:
Two (2) years of professional photography experience
Photography experience in a hospital, morgue, law enforcement agency, crime lab, medical examiner’s office, or related setting
Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular
Weekend and holiday rotation required
Must be available to work during severe weather events or other emergencies if necessary
Work Environment:
Morgue / Office setting
May come in contact with blood and/or blood-borne pathogens and will require training in Universal Precautions
Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, and climb ladders
Work involves exposure to unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
